Alaska Way of life

The Sitka Conservation Society has partnered with the UAF Cooperative Extension Service to offer experiential outdoor educational opportunities for youth in Sitka. We explore the forest, muskeg, and beaches learning about the ecology and natural history of the place we call home. Alaska Way of Life 4-Hers are practicing life skill development through hiking, paddling, berry picking, and exploring small critters in many different ecosystems. We are learning how to live with the land and respect wildlife while promoting a sustainable lifestyle in southeast Alaska.

 Meetings

Program activities vary throughout the year so check the calendar and with the project  leader for the latest schedule. Typically, series run for 6 weeks and the group meets for 1.5 hours one day each week. Other options include single session hikes, or special classes. 4-Hers are asked to sign up for each program they are interested in attending and commit to the group as space is limited.
