Life's a Balancing Act

Project Discipline: STEM
Ages: All ages
Difficulty level: Easy
Supplies: Use anything in your house!
If you choose to follow video instructions, you'll need: a hanger, some paper cups, scissors, ribbon, & something to weigh!

The Challenge: Make a Balance Scale

We're all at home lately, juggling a lot of stuff - work,  school, 4-H, online activities, and more.  We're learning quickly and surely that life is a balancing act.  Well, this week's stem challenge will offer some insight into how we can weigh concrete items (not sure it will help with the balancing of day to day, though).
The good thing is this challenge is easily customizable to accommodate your wildest imagination!  Create a balance scale using only items in your house. Once you have your scale built, challenge a family member to see who can guess what's heavier, or what something weighs (in jelly bean weight!)

Get creative and see what you can come up with, and if you need some help getting started, check out Marla's "how to" in the video below!.  Either way, be sure to post a photo on the Alaska 4-H facebook page when you're done!
