The Maudry Sommer 4-H Club is the 4-H youth club in the village of Tanana. The group is supported by a number of local volunteers and volunteers from San Francisco CA who come twice a year to the village to teach Eskabo Daan, an indigenous martial arts discipline. Activities include robotics, training for and participating in the Native Youth Olympics and the Eskabo Daan martial arts program, entering its fifth year. There is also a group for teens who would like career counseling, assistance in preparing for college or vocational school, or tips and pointers in preparing for the work force. The club is open to all youth, and parents and relatives are encourage to participate as volunteers. Any activity can be a 4-H activity as long as it is fun, safe and educational! Contact Principal Thérèse Ashton for more information about the club and for membership applications. |
