Benefits of Getting Involved

Opportunity to expand in leadership, public speaking, mentorship, and other life skills.
Potential travel to other parts of the state
Potential attendance at national 4-H conferences and events. 

What You'll Do

  • Represent your district while advocating for Alaska 4-H.
  • Assist in planning annual conventions at our Land Grant University (UAF).
  • Present 4-H to potential new members, community supporters, and external organizations.

Job Description

  • Attend leadership and ambassador meetings (online and face to face).
  • Attend, help plan, and organize district events.
  • Serve as a representative for local and state programs and events.
  • If your district has a local leaders’ council, attend at least one meeting per year. 
  • Attend at least one Alaska Volunteer Leaders’ Organization meeting per year. 
  • Represent youth on committees at district, and state levels.
  • Based on experience, lead training sessions or workshops. Present and advocate for 4-H with 4-H staff as needed.
  • Identify a state 4-H need and develop a plan of action to make the best better.
  • Work with the state project committees in the project area they represent.
  • ​Adhere to the 4-H Code of Conduct.

Membership & Selection

  • Open to two Alaska 4-H youth in each category: Horse, Livestock, Shooting Sports, STE(A)M, and Family Consumer Sciences. 
  • One year term with a two-term limit. 
  • Each term will begin Oct. 1 and end Sept. 30. ​
