Welcome to Alaska 4-H Youth in Governance!

We are in the process of revamping this program for 2021 in order to be able to offer a robust, engaging and valuable experience for Alaska's youth during Covid and beyond!

Please contact Darren Snyder at darren.snyder@alaska.edu for current information, interest and inquiries.

Youth in Governance offers 4-H teens from around the state the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the legislative process.

The selection process begins the first week in January with nominations from each district.

Each participant is responsible for paying a registration fee of $250, which covers most costs during the program. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Juneau, a couple of meals and spending money. Alaska 4-H provides ground transportation during the conference, lodging, meals and other programming expenses.

Youth in Governance program relies on three chaperones, preferably from districts that are sending teens. Interested chaperones may apply to the program coordinators, Marla Lowder and Priscilla Rice.  Chaperones will be responsible for airfare and $250 registration fee.

Chaperone Applications: Adults are asked to submit in writing (email is fine) your name, how many years you have been a leader, how you will help with the duties listed in the requirements below, and why you want to attend the program.  This is due to Marla Lowder, mklowder@alaska.edu, by January 16, 2020.

If you have questions, contact Marla Lowder at 907-474-2427 or mklowder@alaska.edu, or Priscilla Rice at 907-347-3570 or plmrice.ak@gmail.com.
